Here is the comment feedback for Assignment 1. Read them carefully to help you to improve the upcoming assignments.

 

Literature Review Study

Several of you don't have an existing manuscript to work on for our class assignment which is ok. Therefore, a systematic literature review or scoping review study would be relevant. A systematic literature review or scoping review IS NOT the same as a literature review.

 

It is common to confuse systematic and literature reviews as both are used to provide a summary of the existent literature or research on a specific topic. 

 

Systematic literature review: High-level overview of primary research on a focused question that identifies, selects, synthesizes, and appraises all high-quality research evidence relevant to that question. The process of undertaking a systematic literature review covers not only the content found in the literature but the methods used to find the literature, what search strategies you used and how and where you searched. 

 

Literature review: Qualitatively summarizes evidence on a topic using informal or subjective methods to collect and interpret studies.

 

If you are not familiar with the differences, be sure to research.

 

For the course learning purposes, a literature review is not suitable as our assignment since many journals do not accept a literature review manuscript and may accept a systematic literature review. Check the journal guidelines. A systematic literature review or other review studies are more appropriate for our class assignments.

 

Theoretical framework & Conceptual Framework

We need a clearly identified theoretical framework and/or conceptual framework for any study.

The theoretical framework is one of the most important aspects in the research process, yet is often misunderstood by many.

 

The importance of theory-driven thinking and acting is emphasized in relation to the selection of a topic, the development of research questions, the conceptualization of the literature review, the design approach, and the analysis plan for a study. It is more like a blueprint.

 

Google Docs format

It is ok to upload your assignment to Google Docs as a Word format.  It would be even better if we upload it as a Google Doc format because we can provide feedback and comments to a more specific location in your assignment.
