Module 3 & 4: Instructor’s Notes #1
We had a fruitful module discussion last week. There are two more module discussions in the upcoming instructions. I encourage you to stay active and interactive for the upcoming discussions. Read our classmates' postings which contain rich resources. The key learning element for online learning is "learner-learner" interaction.
Highlight: Module 3 & 4
08/24-08/30: Module 3: The Introduction and Literature Review Section
- Continue working on your manuscript (suggested work – write the introduction and a draft of at least 2 sections of your literature review)
08/31-09/13: Module 4: The Literature Review: Common Mistakes
- Due: Assignment 1: Introduction and Literature Review to your Peer Reviewer for Peer Review #1
We have a few weeks to prepare Assignment 1. Avoid procrastinating. Start preparing your Assignment 1. ECI721 is to prepare you to "write for publication" not for a dissertation, regular course assignments, or grant writing etc. More specifically, it is not teaching you how to write a literature review which you should learn from other courses.
If you do not have any existing writing to work on. Start preparing it now since conducting a comprehensive literature review is time consuming.
If the manuscript is based on an existing research and writing, be sure to check the lengths of Introduction and Literature Reviews. Check the length requirement for the journal that you intend to submit. Avoid taking existing lengthy literature reviews without any relevant modification. In general, the length requirement ranges from 5,000-8,000 words for a manuscript. How will you appropriate word counts for each section (Introduction, Literature review, method, results, discussion, & conclusions) of a manuscript?
If your manuscript is a collaborative work with your co-author(s) or a research team, be sure to specify it in the assignment. Unless specified, our class will assume you will be the first author of the manuscript.
As usual, please feel free to email me.
